How to Clean Synthetic Fiber Carpet at Home?

Collaborative Post

Unlike a coating made from natural fibers (wool, cotton, silk), cleaning a synthetic carpet is easier. Acrylic, polyamide, polypropylene and polyester are not afraid of the effects of water. They can be cleaned with foam, detergent solutions, steam, and snow. Simple carpet cleaning techniques, including the use of natural products are also appropriate for them – salt, soda, vinegar, and tea leaves.

How to Care for Synthetic Carpeting

Modern technologies give carpets made of synthetics a beautiful, fashionable and stylish look. For example, acrylic carpets visually, and to the touch, do not differ from wool. However, they are much cheaper. Caring for them, regardless of the type and length of the pile, is easier. Synthetics are less whimsical than viscose, silk, wool.

Synthetic fiber has properties that determine the specifics of contamination of products from it.

  • Firstly, polyester, nylon, polypropylene and other artificial materials from which pile coatings are made easily acquire a static electric charge. Because of this, dust and dirt suspended in the air are actively attracted to the carpet.
  • Secondly, the removal of visible dirt from the surface of the carpet does not allow you to completely get rid of dust. It lingers in the pile, turning into a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, as well as dust mites.
  • Thirdly, wet cleaning of carpets made of synthetic fibers often leads to the appearance of a characteristic unpleasant odor and mold. This is due to the sensitivity of carpet to excessive moisture.

Regular Care for Synthetic Fiber Carpet

The standard care recommended by manufacturers consists of regular domestic carpet cleaning with a vacuum cleaner. If the synthetic carpet is highly electrified, treat the pile with an antistatic agent. Then the vacuum cleaner will easily clean the coating from:

– fine debris and dust;

– hair and fibers;

– pet hair.

It is important to vacuum slowly. Walk through each area two to three times. Therefore, you would better clean the pile of dust and the microscopic tick living in it.

Deep Carpet Cleaning

For deep carpet cleaning (once in 2-3 months) use a mixture of water, soda, food vinegar (2 liters, 1 tablespoon, 60 ml, respectively). With the cleaning agent poured into the spray gun, spray the entire surface. Try not to waterlog the coating. After soft brushing, even the colors of the carpet will become much brighter.

Synthetic carpets are cleaned with coarse salt. With a brush or a clean broom, spread it over the pile. The substance has a high cleaning ability. After 30 minutes with a damp, clean broom, sweep the dirty salt off the carpet and vacuum thoroughly.

What to Do with Spots?

The secret to owning a carpet without stains is simple – get them out right away. The tip is relevant for carpets from any type of fiber. Synthetics is even easier. Stains can be removed with a cloth and soap foam. It is prepared from laundry soap or laundry detergent.

With a clean cloth, apply foam to the stain, and gently rub the pile. Repeat the carpet cleaning procedure until the stain disappears. Wipe with a clean cloth. Try not to wet the pile and base abundantly so that they quickly and completely dry.

How to Remove the Smell of Urine from Pets?

Light carpets can be cleaned with a chlorine-containing product diluted with water (1: 1 ratio). Apply the solution to the stain, with a clean sponge, gently rub the pile in different directions. Then wipe with a cloth moistened with clean water and dry.

Dark and colored carpets made of synthetics can be cleaned with a solution of potassium permanganate and iodine. The recipe is simple: 1 liter of water + a small pinch of potassium permanganate + 20 drops of iodine. Put a solution on a cloth, wash a spot of urine thoroughly. If the carpet is covered in such stains, treat its surface completely. Then wipe it with a cloth soaked in clean water. Make sure that the carpet is completely dry after cleaning.

Do You Prefer Professional Carpet Cleaning?

When it comes to synthetic fiber carpets, you have two options – either using dry cleaning procedure or carpet steam cleaning. Both methods can be applied for this type of carpet. When you order carpet cleaning services, the experts that will visit you will determine which method is best to be applied. For offices and public buildings dry cleaning is the preferred method because it does not require any drying. However, if you need deep carpet cleaning for the synthetic carpets in your home, then most likely steam carpet cleaning procedure will be applied. There is a number of benefits of using hot water extraction carpet cleaning, and coping with the bad odor and eliminating bacteria are just two of them. All in all, steam carpet cleaning services are an excellent way to maintain your carpets clean for a long time!
