Last night Hubby and I had our first night out since The Little Man was born. It was by no means a big night out, we drove into Newcastle, went for a meal and to the theatre and we were home by 10pm, but it was nice to have a little ‘us’ time.
We headed to Carluccio’s on Grey Street for something to eat prior to the show at 7.30. We hadn’t booked so were pleased when we were able to get a table without any issues. Carluccios is an Italian restaurant chain and has only relatively recently opened in Newcastle.
I tried to choose something healthy – ish, going for the bruschetta (£5.50) to start, what I hadn’t anticipated was the oil. I prefer to put my own olive oil and balsamic vinegar on my bruschetta, but this came already drizzled. Not to worry though, it was nice enough.
We then decided on a sharing trio of pastas (£22) between us. We picked –
Tortelloni Di Cervo – Handmade fresh tortelloni filled with wine braised venison.
Linguine Al Frutti Di Mare – Linguine pasta with squid, mussels, clams and prawns with garlic, herbs and chilli.
Pasta Con Funghi – Egg pappardelle with a mix of shiitake, oyster, porcini and button mushrooms.
The pastas were all delicious – particularly the Pasta Con Funghi. With a bottle of house wine the total order only came to £49 which I think was pretty reasonable. The service was fab too, the waitress serving us was really friendly and helpful.
After the meal we headed over to the Theatre Royal to see The Two Worlds of Charlie F. I wasn’t too sure what to expect but I was blown away. It was probably one of the best theatre performances I have ever seen.
It was nice to have a night out just the two of us, but I couldn’t wait to get back home to The Little Man who apparently had been good as gold all night.
What was your first night out without your baby like?
