Summer is here and the holiday period is well under way. Trips abroad can be expensive, especially if you have a large family so a great way to enjoy a Summer trip without breaking the bank is to take a camping trip.
I’ll be honest, I hadn’t been camping beyond the garden until I hit my 20’s. My very first camping experience was at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2007 – what a way to break me in! I enjoyed every second, it was a fantastic experience which was made even better by the beautiful sunshine and the copious amounts of Strongbow cider that I drank.
Since then I’ve been camping more and we’ve also tried glamping, which is such good fun. We’ve recently bought our own tent and some basic equipment which means this summer we’ll be able to head off on some camping trips in the UK without having to borrow from other people.

Some of my tips for a great camping experience are –
*Choose a site with good toilet and wash facilities. Basic is fine but if you’re camping with children, they should be clean with plenty of hot water.
*Take flip flops. No one wants to walk through the toilet block after a shower with bare feet.
*Choose a site that allows BBQ’s and camp fires. A little bit of fire MAKES a camping trip!
*Take a torch. It’s reassuring should you hear a noise, helps ensure a safe midnight trip to the loo and means you don’t need to spend hours searching for those missing keys/shoes/ear plugs in the pitch black.
*Take clothing for every eventuality, it’s the UK after all! One minute you may be lounging in your bikini, seconds later, you’re reaching for your woolly socks!
*Take you friends. We’ve camped in groups and such a great time. The kids can play together and the adults can share the cooking and ten erecting.
