What to expect at a Turtle Tots Class & Giveaway

You may have read on my blog a little while ago that we were chosen to be Turtle Tots Ambassadors and have been enjoying a term of baby swimming lessons.

Our lessons are on a break over the Summer holidays but we’ll be finishing off the course in September and updating you with our thoughts. In the mean time I thought I’d share some information and tips if you’re planning on attending a Turtle Tots class and give you the opportunity to win £50 worth of Turtle Tots goodies!

What is Turtle Tots?

Turtle Tots is a swimming programme that begins with aqua-natal yoga for mums-to-be, and continues with progressive child-led baby and toddler lessons.

When can I start Turtle Tots?

The baby swimming programme is 50 weeks long and is broken down into five terms that last between 7 and 12 weeks. There is no minimum age, child can start from newborn right up until 4 years.

Do I need to wait until my baby has had their immunisations?

No. The Department of Health advises that you can take your baby swimming as soon as you like and there is no need to wait for them to have their vaccinations. Just make sure you choose a warm pool as small babies won’t enjoy cold water or cold changing facilities.

What do we need to wear?

You will just need to wear your usual swimming costume or bikini. Turtle Tots have a double nappy policy so your baby will need to wear a disposable or reusable swimming nappy ( Huggies Little Swimmers or similar) with a Neoprene nappy over the top ( these can be bought directly from Turtle Tots or picked up in most supermarkets for around £10).

Most pools that are used for Turtle Tots swimming lessons are much warmer than a normal local pool however, if you feel you baby could so with an extra layer, try a baby wet suit or a warm suit.

What will we learn at Turtle Tots?

In Turtle Tots classes both baby and parent are taught water confidence and how to enjoy their time in the water. Babies are taught life saving skills and how to swim both above and below the water. The classes are relaxed, friendly and fun but still focused on learning important life skills.

What are the benefits of baby swimming?

There are a huge number of benefits including:

• Improved heart and lung function
• Development of their neurological system, particularly their vestibular system
which controls balance
• Development of coordination, joint mobility, muscular strength and symmetry.
• Better sleeping and feeding patterns.
• A great time to bond and spend time with your little one.
• Water confidence from a young age.

What happens if we need to miss a Turtle Tots class?

Turtle Tots will allow you to miss/change two of your classes per term. This can be used to accommodate holidays or illness and you can arrange to attend another class instead. You must notify your teacher in advance but Turtle Tots will do all they can to ensure you don’t miss out on a lesson.

We’re really enjoying our classes and I would highly recommend Turtle Tots.
