Four Country Pubs To Visit In Kielder

Today you have the pleasure of reading a lovely guest post from Carrie who blogs at RuralTeacake. Her beautiful blog is full of gorgeous photographes and posts about living in Kielder which just happens to be one of my favourites places in Northumberland.

If you are planning on visiting Kielder, Northumberland don’t worry about packing a picnic, there are plenty of traditional country pubs to keep you well fed and watered.

I’ve picked four of my favourite Kielder country pubs to share with you.image1[1]The Pheasant Inn

Stannersburn, Nr Kielder, NE48 1DD.   Tel 01434 240382

The Pheasant Inn is a delightful little find just before you reach Kielder dam.  The original wood beams and exposed stone walls immediately make you feel like you have stepped back in time. If you like local history make some time to check out the old photos hanging on the walls.  The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend the ploughman’s if you just want a quick bite.

Verdict – Ideal for a bite of lunch before exploring Kielder.image2[1]The Red Lion

Newbrough, Hexham, NE47 5AR.   Tel 01434 674226

Despite being a good 30 minutes drive from Kielder I’ve included The Red Lion because it is by far one of the friendliest, cosiest pubs in the area.  With two wood burning stoves to cosy up next to, a small restaurant serving freshly made delicious meals and award winning B&B available, it’s impossible to find any flaws.  The icing on the cake is the Stanegate room which offers local artists and crafters a place to showcase and sell their work.

Verdict – The perfect stop on your way home for a delicious meal and souvenir.image3[1]Battlesteads

Wark-on-Tyne, Nr Hexham, NE48 3LS    Tel.  01434 230209

Battlesteads is my go-to pub when I have family visiting and I want to impress.  The food is amazing and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome.  This is the place to come when you want to really treat yourself because it’s the small details that make Battlesteads so special.  Finish your visit with a drink in the walled garden and bring a camera because you’ll want to take photos.

Verdict – The place to go when you want award winning dining.image4[1]The Boat Inn

Leaplish Waterside Park, Kielder, NE48 1BT   Tel  01434 251000

If you are looking for a lakeside view, friendly staff and superb food then park up at Leaplish and head straight for The Boat Inn. Mrs Wifey and I love this place and cannot fault the food. There is not a single meal on the menu that fails to impress and the Sunday carvery is not to be missed. To finish your visit head to the shop to pick up some Kielder themed gifts or head to the bird hide to spot some red squirrels.

Verdict – Ideal for families and lakeside visitors.
