Review Rum Doodle B and B, Windermere

My hubby and I decided on a few days away in the Lakes as a
bit of a post wedding / post honeymoon break. After searching the internet for
somewhere a little quirky and unusual we settled on Rum Doodle, which is
located in Windermere.
Rum Doodle is based on a book called The Ascent of Rum Doodle which is
a short novel by W. E. Bowman – you’ll find a copy of the book in your room!
The B and B has 9 rooms and are currently showing as No 7
out of 113 hotels in Windermere.
The B and B about a 15 minute walk up from Lake Windermere
at Bowness and about 10 minutes away from Windermere centre. It’s set in a
quiet residential street on a hill. There’s plenty of car parking at either
side of the hotel and was easy to find with the help of a Sat Nav.
On arrival we were greeted by the lovely Emma and cake and
coffee – what a perfect combination.
We were shown to our room – in our case Room 2, The Jungle
Room, which is a ground floor room, just to the left of the entrance. The room
itself contained a good sized bed and adequate space including a small table
and chairs and coffee and tea trolley. The bathroom was small and a little
outdated but very clean, and gave us everything we needed.
I was impressed by the attention to detail in the room, from
the vintage, shabby chic decor to the homemade biscuits and hair dryer in the
desk drawer.

The only problem with the room we were in was the fact it
was so close to the front door, and every time someone came in the door banged
and was quite noisy, it didn’t cause any problems as such, but if we return I’d
request a room upstairs.
We paid £80 a night to stay at Rum Doodle, which isn’t a bad
price. It’s probably about an average price for the area. The b and b is
walking distance to, but probably not suitable for those with walking problems
or mobility issues due to the fact it’s on a bank and a good walk from both the
shops and Lake Windermere itself.
Check in was from 2pm and check out by 10.30.
Overall I was impressed by the b and b, it was clean,
reasonably central and the hosts were lovely. I would recommend it to friends
and family, especially those who love something a little different or quirky.

Some other pictures taken while we were in the Lake District.
